FAQ: General Hosting

Q: What is Web hosting?

A: Web hosting is the set of processes and tools that enable the storage, management and execution of Web sites on the World Wide Web.

Q: Can I have Web hosting without a domain name?

A: No, a domain name is required. However, AISO.net customers can purchase a domain name, or if you already have a domain name you can transfer it to AISO in lieu of registering a new domain. Upon transfer, your domain name will be renewed for another year.

Q: Does it matter which operating system is used in my computer?

A: No, the operating system used in your computer is completely independent of your web hosting service. Your web hosting server use its own operating system so it does not matter what you or your visitors use. Currently, we offer two server platforms: Linux and Windows. AISO.net hosting customers can pick any platform, but they can switch to either Windows or Linux at any time for a small fee.

Q: Which plan works better if I have a Mac?

A: We get this question a lot and it really does not matter. You can access the control panel or your server through a browser or an FTP program like Transmit.

Q: Do I need any special software?

A: With the exception of a browser, no special software is required as we will provide you the necessary tools to create Web sites (only available on the AISO Website Builder plan, all other plans require an FTP client), read E-mails, and more. You are, of course, free to use your own tools when possible.

Q: How do I manage my Web hosting account?

A: Log in to the Online Hosting Management System at www.controlmywebsite.com which is the primary web hosting management tool. With CMW, you can manage virtually every aspect of your Web hosting account and domain.

Real People True Testimonials
When I started designing websites, I started using a "discount" web hosting company. I would run into issues or questions and send them an email (they had no phone number on their site) for support. My question would be two or three paragraphs long and I would get a three or four word answer back with no clear resolve to my question or problem.

So I set out to find a service with good support, no matter the cost. I searched the web and came across AISO, looked at their site and saw...
